        Fiji launches national anti-corruption curriculum

        SUVA, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) and the Ministry of Education jointly launched on Wednesday the second and third pilot phase of the National Anti-Corruption Curriculum in 16 schools in the South Pacific Island state this year.

        According to Fijivillage, a leading news website in Fiji, FICAC and the ministry's curriculum development officers met with teachers of 16 schools to be piloting the curriculum in school syllabus this year for an introductory workshop in Nadi, the third largest city of Fiji on Wednesday.

        FICAC Corruption Prevention Manager Kolora Naliva said one-day workshop is designed to assist teachers to familiarize themselves with the contents of the National Anti-Corruption Resource Manual and its frameworks so that these teachers are able to understand their roles and responsibilities in the piloting phase.

        The curriculum will see the integration of anti-corruption lessons into selected subjects like English, Social Science, Social Studies, Accounting and History, she said, adding that education is a great tool to preventing crime and corruption.

        The pilot phase includes students from Year 5 to Year 13 and it is anticipated to be a fully-fledged program in all schools around the island state by 2019.
