Xinhua Headlines: China champions peace, development, will not replace U.S.

File photo taken on Nov. 3, 2017 shows a worker introducing beef that imported from the United States to a customer, at a supermarket in Shanghai, east China. Though it is the home of U.S. billionaire investor Warren Buffett, Omaha was little known to Chinese a few months ago. But now this city in the midwestern Nebraska state is poised to become a household name in China since its Greater Omaha Packing company sent about 40 boxes of its products to China on June 14, soon days after the United States and China reached a deal to re-open Chinese markets for U.S. beef as part of their 100-day action plan to boost bilateral economic cooperation. China on Thursday gave outsiders an inside look at how the country intends to tackle diplomacy as its global influence grows. Taking questions at an annual press event, Foreign Minister Wang Yi made a rough sketch of "major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics," which embodies championing peace, being non-threatening, standing up for the small and weak, and sharing development opportunities. Major-country diplomacy rose to prominence under President Xi Jinping's leadership. The concept involves building a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for humanity to truly benefit the world. (Xinhua/Meng Dingbo)
