NAIROBI, March 12 (Xinhua) -- The Kenyan government on Monday restored the security detail of opposition leaders and lawmakers, days after President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga agreed on a unity deal.

Bodyguards were withdrawan in early February after the "swearing-in" of Odinga as "people's president."

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett authorized the restoration of bodyguards assigned to leading opposition figures.

On Friday, Kenyatta and Odinga agreed to work together to advance national healing and cohesion after a divisive election period last fall.

Some 141 lawmakers and businessmen allied to the main opposition coalition, National Super Alliance (NASA), had their bodyguards withdrawan and firearm licenses revoked during that crackdown last month.

National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohammed confirmed that police attached to him and other fellow opposition lawmakers had been reinstated.

"It's true our security has been restored," Junet said. "Our cars have also been brought back."
