NAIROBI, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Kenya is ready to attend the Rugby Africa U-20 competition, which will be held in Windhoek, Namibia.
The event will be open to teams from southern Africa and will be held from March 28-31.
Four countries will be battling it out for the right to represent the continent at the World Rugby's Junior Trophy in 2018. The tournament has attracted teams from Kenya, Madagascar and Zimbabwe.
Kenya will play against Madagascar while Namibia will face off against Zimbabwe. The winner of the two matches will meet in the final.
The best team will wait to know which country they will meet later in June from North Africa where the winner will qualify for the World Rugby's Junior Championships.
The Kenyan team will be led by Xavier Kipng'etich and will be assisted by Stanley Isogol. Head Coach Paul Odera has confidence in the team. "We are trying to get a balance between those who have played the game for a long time and others who've just started.The advantage of the Kenyan rugby players is that they are very well conditioned and they are able to withstand mentally even the hardest hits," he said on Tuesday in Nairobi.
"We do know about Madagascar having watched them last year. They play a very expansive game when they have the ball. They will run the ball at every opportunity and will look to keep us pinned in our territory," Odera said. Endtiem
