HANOI, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Leaders of the six-country Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) attended the 6th GMS Summit here on Saturday, mainly to map out directions and operational focus for the sub-region's development in the near future.

The theme of the summit is "Leveraging on 25 Years of Cooperation, and Building a Sustainable, Integrated, and Prosperous GMS."

The leaders, including prime ministers of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, a Chinese state councilor and a Myanmar vice president, plus leaders of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the World Bank and the ASEAN General secretary, are to touch upon a report on recent outcomes of GMS cooperation and the Hanoi Action Plan 2018-2022, another report of the GMS Business Council on achievements of GMS private sector, and endorse the Hanoi Action Plan 2018-2022, the Regional Investment Framework 2022 and the 6th GMS Joint Declaration.

The action plan, including strengthening links between rural and urban areas in the sub-region, provides the directions and operational focus for the remaining five years of the GMS Strategic Framework.

The Regional Investment Framework 2022 consists of over 200 projects.

China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam launched the GMS Economic Cooperation Program in 1992, with assistance of the ADB, to enhance economic relations.
