NEW DELHI, May 10 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed in an explosion at a stone quarry in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, police said Thursday.
The explosion took place in a remote area near Shikaripara in the state's Dumka district, some 350 kms from capital Ranchi.
"The blast was reported late Wednesday night. We have so far recovered two bodies. Efforts are on to pull out other bodies," local police chief Kishor Kaushal told the media.
Many miners who sustained injuries in the explosion were admitted to government hospitals, another police official said.
Local media reports said that the miners were fixing explosives in the stone quarry when they suddenly exploded.
"We are verifying the claims. A probe has been ordered into the incident," Kaushal added.
