NEW DELHI, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Indian police Thursday launched an investigation after 10 border guards suddenly went missing en route to Indian-controlled Kashmir.

A total of 83 Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were headed on a special train from the eastern state of West Bengal to Indian-controlled Kashmir on Wednesday and a sudden head count at a station in Uttar Pradesh state revealed the 10 security men had gone missing, police said.

"The 10 BSF personnel went missing somewhere in between Dhanbad and Bardhaman stations without informing their commander. We have filed an absconding report and have started investigating the matter," railway police official Jitendra Kumar Yadav told the media.

A senior BSF official said the missing personnel would face disciplinary action for their unauthorized absence.

"No personnel can remain absent from duty without informing their superior officials. We will take strict action," he added.
