HARARE, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwe's Prosecutor-General (PG) Ray Goba has been suspended with immediate effect pending an investigation into his fitness to continue holding office, state media the Herald reported Friday.

The paper said Goba faces charges of failing to prosecute high profile corruption cases, using abusive language and entering Namibia despite being a prohibited immigrant, among others.

Goba was appointed PG late 2017.

He is the country's second chief prosecutor following the establishment of the post in 2013 and he took over from Johannes Tomana who was dismissed by former President Robert Mugabe in 2017 on allegations of misconduct.

Since taking over from Mugabe in November, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been preaching against corruption and warning that perpetrators would be prosecuted.

However, few high profile cases have been heard before the courts with no convictions recorded so far.?
