DAR ES SALAAM, July 13 (Xinhua) -- The government of Tanzania on Friday declared September a month for celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the East African country.

Hamisi Kigwangallah, Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, said the occasion named Heritage Festival will be a national event aimed at celebrating and cherishing the country's rich and diversified cultural heritage.

"The Heritage Festival will enhance Tanzania's pride and identity. It will also diversify tourist products, allowing young generation to gain an appreciation of national history and culture," he told a news conference in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam.

The minister said the festival will be an annual event that will also help promote Tanzania's tourist destinations and contribute to revenue generation.

He said President John Magufuli will be the guest of honor at the official launch of Heritage Festival in the capital Dodoma in September.

The festival will feature a carnival, exhibitions of traditional art and craft, traditional dance and music from all tribes in Tanzania.
