CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand, March 24 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand will hold a national remembrance service on Friday for victims of the Christchurch attack, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said on Sunday.

The remembrance service will provide an opportunity for New Zealanders and people around the world to come together as one to honor the victims, Ardern said in a statement.

"There has been an outpouring of grief and love in our country since the unprecedented terror attack. The service will be a chance to once again show that New Zealanders are compassionate, inclusive and diverse, and that we will protect those values,"said Ardern.

Christchurch Mayor Lianne Dalziel said she is proud of her city in responding to the attack, "this would be a time for everyone to come together in unity".

It is reported that the service will be held at Christchurch's Hagley Park and will be jointly led by the government of New Zealand, the city of Christchurch, local Maori and Muslim community.

Foreign leaders and dignitaries would likely be in attendance, as well as global Muslim leaders.

Live broadcast is considered to collaborating events in major cities including Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin. More details will be released in the coming week.

Fifty people were killed in the attack at two mosques in Christchurch on March 15.
