DPRK slams U.S. for war moves on anniversary of Korean War

PYONGYANG, June 25 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) slammed the United States for its war moves against the country on Thursday, the 65th anniversary since the Korean War broke out.

The National Defense Commission (NDC), DPRK's powerful military body, blasted Washington for its ambition to wipe out the DPRK "as a ghost of aggression and war," in a statement carried by the official news agency KCNA.

"The U.S. design to politically isolate and stifle the DPRK has reached extremity," the statement said, adding the "U.S. imperialists' moves have reached a serious phase that can no longer be overlooked."

The commission said that "the army and people of the DPRK will launch a nationwide anti-U.S. struggle on a new higher stage to foil the U.S. imperialists' hostile policy toward the DPRK and their unprecedented moves to isolate and stifle it."

It condemned the United States for its preparations for a nuclear war and germ warfare on the Korean Peninsula.

The statement urged Washington to "repeal its hostile policy toward the DPRK that can never come true," warning that the country is ready for conventional and nuclear war, or even a cyber war.

The United States should withdraw the war scenario targeting the DPRK, stop the reckless nuclear war racket and make apology to the DPRK army and people, it said.

The Korean Peninsula remains technically in a state of ceasefire because the 1950-1953 Korean War was ended with an armistice rather than a peace treaty.
