LOS ANGELES, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- A suspicious package addressed to U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Saturday night was determined by a bomb squad of Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) not to be an explosive but manure.
The LAPD said that the package, labeled to Mnuchin and left in a driveway, was reported by someone in the neighborhood, investigators then found it was filled with manure.
Earlier aerial footage from helicopter posted online showed that officers investigating a large box wrapped in paper near Mnuchin's home in Bel Air, a neighborhood 5 km west of Los Angeles downtown in the western U.S. state of California and known for mansions belonging to celebrities and entertainment industry elites.
According to local ABC 7 news channel, the package was also labeled as being from "the American people."
Mnuchin is the 77th U.S. Secretary of the Treasury as part of the President Donald Trump administration. Previously Mnuchin was a film producer and hedge fund manager.
The 55-year-old American banker has been a vocal supporter of the controversial tax reform and is an advocate for reducing corporate tax rates, which was legalized after a 1.5-trillion-dollar tax cut bill was signed by Trump into law on Friday.?
