        SINGAPORE, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed higher on
Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 0.39
percent or 13.8 points to close at 3,550.21.

        

        A total of 2.12 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of
1.12 billion Singapore dollars (about 844.14 million U.S. dollars).
Gainers outnumbered losers by 272 to 182.

        

        The STI index closed up 0.45 percent or 15.85 points at 3,536.41
