RAMALLAH, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian man was killed Tuesday night during clashes between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli soldiers in the northern West Bank city of Nablus, Palestinian medics said.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in an emailed press statement that one Palestinian young man was shot dead and about 70 others were injured, including 12 with wounds from live bullets, 17 with wounds from rubber-coated metal bullets and 40 injured by tear gas.
It identified the victim as Khaled Waleed al-Tayeh, a young man from Nablus, who arrived dead at the al-Najjah Hospital in the city.
Residents in Nablus and eyewitnesses said that clashes broke out in its outskirts in early Tuesday evening between Israeli soldiers who broke into the city and besieged one of the houses looking for a Palestinian wanted by Israel.
Dozens of angry Palestinian young men threw stones at the Israeli troops, who fired back with tear gas, rubber bullets and live ammunition.
Earlier Tuesday, Deputy Mayor of the West Bank city Jenin Kamal Abu Al-Rob told Xinhua that a Palestinian man was killed by Israeli forces in a military operation that targeted several villages located between Jenin and Nablus in the north of the West Bank.
Palestinian and Israeli sources identified the man as Ahmad Nasr Jarrar, who is though to be behind the drive-by shooting attack that killed a Jewish Rabbi living in the nearby settlement Haft Gilad.
Jarrar's family confirmed that their 19-year-old son was wanted by the Israeli security, but denying any accusations against him.
