AMMAN, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Arab Bank voiced on Saturday its relief over a decision of a U.S. appeals court to reject a 2014 jury verdict which held the bank liable for supporting Hamas-linked attacks against Israel.
"The bank is pleased and relieved for the ruling that stresses the bank's integrity and strong position and its constant adherence to regulatory requirements and international banking standards," Arab Bank said in a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Xinhua.
The court ruling is final and has completely closed the case, it added.
"The Arab Bank will continue to remain committed to implementing the highest standards of integrity in its behavior and banking operations to maintain its leadership position in the banking sector, both in the region and abroad," the bank noted.
On Friday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit concluded years of litigation over Arab Bank's liability for 24 attacks in and around Israel in the early 2000s.
The appeals court said jurors in Brooklyn were incorrectly instructed that Arab Bank committed an "act of international terrorism" by knowingly providing support to Hamas.
Hamas, an Islamic movement which has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007, was designated in 1997 by the U.S. as a terrorist organization.
