BERLIN, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Relegation-threatened Wolfsburg were unable to grab a win over Augsburg despite a numerical advantage for most of the time at the opener of the 30th round in Bundesliga on Friday.

Both sides staged a cautious first-half performance. Wolfsburg controlled the ball but were only able to threat Augsburg's well-positioned defence for once in the first 45 minutes.

Despite possessing the ball for most of the time it took the hosts 38 minutes to come to their first chance as Landry Dimata's header on target forced Augsburg's goalkeeper Marwin Hitz to make a safe.

After the interval, Augsburg gained a foothold into the match as Jonathan Schmid's well-placed shot on target from 18 meters tested Wolfsburg's custodian Koen Casteels in the 48th minute.

The visitors were caught flat-footed moments later though as Jan Moravek received his marching order for repeated foul play.

However, the "Wolves" failed to make the most of their numerical advantage. On the contrary, Augsburg almost broke the deadlock out of the blue but Marco Richter's lob over Koen Casteels rattled only the bar in the 65th minute.

Wolfsburg's Paul Jaeckel struck the woodwork at the other end of the pitch before substitute Divock Origi missed the target by header from promising position in the 72nd minute.

Augsburg were able to hold firm as Wolfsburg had to finish the game with 10 men as well after Felix Udoukhai was sent off for his second bookable offence in the dying minutes of the game.

With the goalless stalemate, Wolfsburg climb on the 14th position and Augsburg jump on the 10th place of the Bundesliga standings.

The following fixtures are scheduled for Saturday: Bayern Munich host Borussia Monchengladbach, Bayer Leverkusen host Eintracht Frankfurt, Hoffenheim encounter bottom side Hamburg, Hertha Berlin face last placed Cologne and Stuttgart take on Hannover.
