HAVANA, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Cuba's government condemned the U.S. air strikes in Syria on Friday night, supported by the UK and France, said the island's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Saturday in a release.
The release said that Washington decided to take the "unilateral" measure, using the pretext of the alleged chemical weapons used by the Syrian government against civilians, and out of the frame of the United Nations Security Council, and being a violation of the UN Chart.
"This action is an attack against a sovereign state, and contributes to deepen the conflict in Syria and the Middle East," said the Ministry.
Havana also reiterated its solidarity with the government of Bashar al-Assad, and the Syrian people.
In a statement Friday night addressed to the American nation, President Donald Trump accused al-Assad of "deploying chemical weapons to slaughter innocent civilians, this time in the town of Douma near the Syrian capital of Damascus."
The participation of the government forces in the attack in Douma has not been proved, and Damascus has denied in several occasions that it had and used banned weapons, especially against civilians.
