LONDON, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Manchester City moved to the brink of the English Premier League title after beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Wembley on Saturday.

The victory help Pep Guardiola extend their lead over second-placed Manchester United to 16 points. They need just three points to be crowned champions, but they will win the title if Manchester United lose to West Brom on Sunday or to Bournemouth on Wednesday.

Otherwise a City victory in their next game against Swansea at home on 22 April will be enough.

It was a morale-boosting win for City after the disappointment of Tuesday's defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League quarterfinals.

Gabriel Jesus put City ahead in the 22nd minute, racing onto Vincent Kompany's long ball and sliding a low shot past Hugo Lloris.

Two minutes later Lloris brought down Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan converted the penalty to make it 2-0.

Christian Eriksen pulled one back for Spurs just before half-time but Sterling sealed victory with City's third in the 72nd minute.

Mo Salah scored his 40th goal of the season, and 30th in the Premier League to lead Livepool to a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth. Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino scored the other two goals.

Burnley still stay seventh after a 2-1 win over Leicester City.

Crystal Palace look close to safety after they beat Brighton 3-2 while Huddersfield are two points better off than Palace with a 1-0 win over Watford.

Swansea held Everton to a 1-1 draw, leaving them 17th but now five points above third-bottom Southampton, who wasted a 2-0 lead with 20 minutes to go before losing 3-2 at home to Chelsea.

Chelsea are fifth and Southampton are third-bottom.
