        SINGAPORE, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed lower on
Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 0.14
percent or 5.05 points to close at 3,543.18.

        

        A total of 1.06 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of
894.9 billion Singapore dollars (about 668.8 million U.S. dollars).
Losers outnumbered gainers by 230 to 157.

        

        The STI index closed up 0.54 percent or 18.96 points to close at
