SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- The success story of Wuhan city, better known to the West as China's Chicago, in central China, is becoming more familiar to Americans at a photo exhibition that will be in San Francisco in the next four months.

The exhibition brought into spotlight the ever-changing and ground-breaking achievements, represented by Wuhan city over the past 40 years. This is the end result of China introducing a reform-and-open-up policy that transformed the outlook of the country.

Nine photographers in Silicon Valley went to Wuhan city in May and captured the daily life of Wuhan locals and the city's new landscape.

The American photographers told their countrymen their own "China story" through their camera lens and presented to the world the new look of Wuhan city.

China's Consul General in San Francisco Wang Donghua said at an opening ceremony Friday that the exhibit featured more than 100 photos and pictures shot by the nine Silicon Valley engineers-turned photographers, which captured many touching moments of the diversified and dynamic city deep in China.

The photos were the heart-felt expression of the American photographers about what is taking place in Wuhan, Wang said.

Tom Fortin, chief librarian at the Main Library of the San Francisco Public Library, said he is happy to see the photo exhibition being held in the Civic Center facility in downtown San Francisco.

The exhibit is part of the fifth "Across the Pacific: China Arts Festival" which began earlier this month, and Fortin said he felt honored to attend the arts event for the third year.

Florence Fong, a prominent leader of the Chinese community in northern California, said that the cooperation between China and the United States as two major countries will not only promote their development, but also benefit the whole world.

"Photos can tell a lot of stories and this exhibition will further deepen the mutual understanding between the two countries," she said.

A movie festival, which was launched Friday in concurrence with the photo exhibition as part of the China arts festival, will air 19 popular and trend-set Chinese films in seven libraries in northern California.
