SANAA, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Shiite Houthi rebels on Thursday claimed responsibility for Wednesday's ballistic missile attack on a military camp in Saudi Arabia's southern border region of Asir, rebel-run Al-Masirah TV channel reported.
It said the missile was fired late Wednesday night at a gathering of troops of the Yemeni internationally recognized government camping at the Saudi military camp in Asir.
The rebels did not provide further details.
Meanwhile, the Saudi-owned Al Arabiya television reported that "the Saudi air defenses in the Saudi southern border region of Najran intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile on Wednesday night at 10:51 p.m. local time."
It reported no casualties.
However, the Saudi television did not mention Asir but the camp is located in a desert border area between Asir and Najran.
The failed attack was the latest attempt by the Houthis targeting the Saudi territory, in response to the Saudi-led airstrikes on the Houthi-controlled northern areas in Yemen.
Saudi Arabia is leading an Arab military coalition that intervened in Yemen in 2015 to support the government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi after the Houthi rebels forced him into exile.
