LOS ANGELES, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Asian-centric film "Crazy Rich Asians" will receive the Hollywood Breakout Ensemble Award at the 22nd annual Hollywood Film Awards next month, the organizer of the awards said on Tuesday.

Directed by Chinese American filmmaker Jon M. Chu, "Crazy Rich Asians" is a contemporary romantic comedy based on the acclaimed worldwide bestseller by Kevin Kwan. It features an all-Asian starring ensemble from all over the world: China, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Britain and America, including Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh, Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong, Sonoya Mizuno, Chris Pang, Jimmy O. Yang, Ronny Chieng, Remi Hii, and Nico Santos.

The plot follows a young Chinese American woman who travels to meet her boyfriend's family, only to find them to be among the richest in Singapore.

The film is getting more recognition and respect from Hollywood following its impressive box office success. As the first Hollywood studio film in over 25 years to feature a nearly all Asian cast since 1993's "Joy Luck Club," the film took the top spot of North American weekend box office for three weeks in a row and has brought in 171.3 million U.S. dollars in North American for a world total of 230 million dollars to date.

The follow-up of the Warner Bros.' film is reportedly in the development stages and will also be based on Kwan's novel. Kwan was born in Singapore as the youngest of three boys into an established Chinese family.

The "Crazy Rich Asians" inspired by his childhood in Singapore was the first of his trilogy novels. The two other titles are "China Rich Girlfriend" and "Rich People Problems."

"Crazy Rich Asians" is scheduled to hit theaters in China at the end of next month.

Among the awards' other honorees, Amandla Stenberg will be recognized with the Hollywood Breakout Performance Actress Award for 20th Century Fox's "The Hate U Give," while John David Washington will receive the Hollywood Breakout Performance Actor Award for his role in Focus Features' "BlacKkKlansman."

Additionally, Felix Van Groeningen will be bestowed the Hollywood Breakthrough Director Award for Amazon Studios' "Beautiful Boy," and Yalitza Aparicio will be given the New Hollywood Award for her performance in Netflix's "ROMA."

The Hollywood Film Awards, founded in 1997, were created to celebrate Hollywood and launch the awards season. The recipients of the awards are selected by an Advisory Team for their body of work and/or a film(s) that is to be released during the calendar year. This year's Hollywood Film Awards will be held on Nov. 4 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
