Xinhua pictures of the year 2018

Combo photo shows portraits of some survivors of the Nanjing Massacre who have passed away. A total of 20 survivors have passed away in the year of 2018, according to the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders. The Nanjing Massacre took place when Japanese troops captured the city on Dec. 13, 1937. Over six weeks, they killed 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers. The survivors are living witnesses of the massacre. However, there are now less than 100 registered survivors, official data showed. (Xinhua/Han Yuqing, Li Xiang and Ji Chunpeng)
