NEW YORK, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese fashion designer Chen Peng embraced this year's New York Fashion Week (NYFW) with his new collection show on Friday, which features visuals inspired by the Himalayas, and a technical upgrade for the attire's practical functionality.

Titled "HIMA LAYA," a Sanskrit phase meaning snowy land and the home of snow, the collection's clothing prints and color derive from the spectacular views of the mountain range of the Himalayas in Asia, and the region's flora and fauna.

The HIMA LAYA collection involves a total of 37 looks for Autumn/Winter 2019, with clothes spanning from faux fur jackets, hoodies to ski jumpsuits and sport pants.

Through the hybrid use of textiles, such as composite TPU, wool knit and faux fur, the collection also aims to manifest the encouraging spirit of dauntless mountain climbers who challenged Mt. Qomolangma, also known as Mt. Everest, the highest peak of Himalayas, Chen told Xinhua.

This year, the designer also honed his craft in producing outdoor attire by reconstructing polyester materials to achieve different levels of moisture permeability and water resistance.

Chen Peng founded his namesake brand CHENPENG in 2015 and based it in London, as he graduated from London College of Fashion. In the following year, the young designer established his company in Shanghai, which mainly imports and exports textile and garments.

CHENPENG's collections are now stocked in over 70 boutiques, retailers, and department stores across the world, including London-based retailer Dover Street Market, Canada's e-commerce retailer SSENSE, and French department store chain Galeries Lafayette.

The brand also attracted celebrities such as U.S. singer Lady Gaga, U.S. model Bella Hadid and Chinese actress Fan Bingbing.

Chen described his design concept as "one-sized fashion," meaning that his creations intend to suit any body shape.

"Chinese designers' international status has been on the rise, especially since 2015," Chen told Xinhua.

"Every year, a lot of excellent Chinese designers would bring their products to the international markets," he said, as their unique looks and bright colors have gained popularity among western consumers.

For this year's NYFW, Chen also designed a series of crossover products in collaboration with China's sports clothing giant Li Ning, highlighting a fusion of China's ancient philosophy of "round sky and square earth" and the designer's contemporary approach.
