UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia believes that dialogue, reconciliation and negotiations must be the preferred option for the resolution of any Venezuelan issues, a senior Indonesian diplomat said here on Tuesday.
"It is our strong conviction that there will always be a negotiated solution based on dialogue among all those involved," Muhsin Syihab, Indonesia's deputy permanent representative to the UN, told the Security Council meeting on Venezuela.
The oil-rich country has been plagued by a political crisis since opposition leader Juan Guaido declared himself interim president one month ago.
A U.S.-backed drive to deliver "humanitarian aid" to Venezuela through border crossings met strong resistance from the government as President Nicolas Maduro believed the aid, mainly from the United States, is a smokescreen for a military invasion. The Venezuelan government has closed borders with Brazil and Colombia and some air and sea routes.
"We encourage the delivery of all humanitarian aid for the people of Venezuela through a proper channel by the United Nations in close coordination with the Venezuela government," Syihab said, urging the Security Council to create the environment conducive for all relevant parties to commit to inclusive and credible political dialogue.
