China's Zhang Shuai loses in BNP Paribas Open second round

WASHINGTON, March 8 (Xinhua) -- China's tennis player Zhang Shuai lost to Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open held in Indian Wells, California on Friday.

Ostapenko just needed one hour or so to dispatch Zhang 6-2, 6-1 and will take on Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic in the third round.

Ostapenko, a former French Open winner in 2017, has improved the head-to-head record against Zhang to 2-0.
