DOHA, March 31 (Xinhua) -- China's 20-year-old table tennis player Wang Manyu beat the grand slam veteran Ding Ning 4-0 to reach the semifinals of the 2019 ITTF Qatar Open on Sunday.
From the very first game, Wang gave no chance to her top-ranking counterpart with a 3-0 lead and finally wraped up the game 11-6. In the second game, she attacked even harder at every opportunity, ending up with a lop-sided 11-1. Ding Ning tried but still failed to catch up in the following games, and finally lost the semifinal to Wang within less than 30 minutes.
Wang Manyu and Sun Yingsha had defeated Ding Ning and Wang Yidi to win the women's doubles on Saturday.
In another semifinal, another veteran Liu Shiwen beat 18-year-old Sun Yingsha by 4-3, setting up a final with Wang Manyu on Monday.
