NANNING, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Badminton Association official and head coach of the Guangxi badminton team, Zhao Jianhua, said Thursday China has a good chance of winning the upcoming 2019 Sudirman Cup on home soil.
As a former badminton player, Zhao participated in the Sudirman Cup in 1989 and 1993, and said that tournament participants represent the highest level of badminton in the world, though cautioning that winning the title depends on a series of factors, including physical condition, mental state and adaptability.
"With their current overall strength, the Chinese delegation has a good chance to win," said Zhao. "Among the five competitions, they have the best chance of winning in the mixed doubles."
The 2019 Sudirman Cup will held from May 19 to 26 in Nanning, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Zhao praised the promotional efforts of event organizers. "I heard that tickets to the Cup have sold so well that it is difficult to obtain one. Judging from this, we did a wonderful job with promotional activities and court construction, which is completely in line with international requirements."
"We are delighted to see the 2019 Sudirman Cup held in Nanning, allowing badminton fans in Guangxi to enjoy this top-level event," added Zhao. As the head coach of the Guangxi badminton team, Zhao also considered it a valuable learning opportunity for his squad.
