BEIJING, June 26 (Xinhua) -- A total of 192 individuals and 98 groups of civil servants were conferred with the titles of civil servants (groups) "who the people deem satisfactory" at a national awards ceremony Tuesday.

The ceremony, the ninth of its kind, was co-organized by the Organization Department and the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. It was first held in 1996 and last held in 2013.

The title, the highest honor for China's civil servants, was set to encourage the country's civil servants to better serve the public and learn from honored role models.

Candidates for the title this year included more civil servants and civil servant groups at grassroot level and those who have made outstanding contributions to the country's major projects.

Among all the awarded civil servants, whose average age is 46, 172 work at local organs or authorities and 46 are female, while 85 of the 98 honored groups of civil servants are at local level.

Here is a glance of some of the honored civil servants (groups) this year:

-- The Chinese embassy in Afghanistan, faced with danger of frequent explosions and shootings, have rescued more than 30 Chinese citizens that were stranded or abducted in Afghanistan over four years.

-- Wang Fang, a civil servant responsible for surveying and mapping in southwest China's Sichuan Province, has participated in emergency responses to provide reliable geographical information in over 10 earthquakes and other disasters in the province.

-- Zhang Baoguo, a member of the country's special police in Jinan, capital of east China's Shandong Province, has identified, removed and destroyed more than 4,000 shells and bombs of different types.

-- Yang Yubin, a village Party official in east China's Zhejiang Province, has been working hard with the villagers and built the village into a popular tourist site.
